The Supreme Court will today hear a bail plea of Teesta Setalvad and her husband Javed Anand.

Setalvad is accused of criminal conspiracy, rioting and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace in connection with the 2002 Godhra riots case that resulted in deaths of over 1000 people. Her husband is also facing charges under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 504 (intentional insult) along with other sections related to intimidation and causing hurt by throwing acid or burning material on someone’s face or body outside their residence at Tilak Road area while they were trying to stop communal violence during Gujarat riots on 27th February 2002 when trains carrying Hindu pilgrims were attacked by mobs as well as local Muslims who had gathered there because they thought that Hindus would attack them too after seeing news reports about what had happened earlier day at Gulbarg Society locality where some members belonging minority community had been killed after being mistaken for those responsible for killing Shabir Ahmad Shah – one among five men who committed suicide before police arrived at his house following allegations made against him which happened around midnight time when he went upstairs only once again despite repeated warnings given by neighbours telling him not do so anymore unless absolutely necessary since no one could be trusted anymore due problems existed between communities due bad relations between Hindus-Muslims these days due misunderstanding caused by media reports covering events accurately rather than inaccurately like what happens most often nowadays).

The Gujarat High Court, on August 3, issued a notice to the state government on the bail plea of Setalvad and fixed the matter for hearing on September 19. Sibal had told the apex court on August 22 that allegations in the FIR are recitation of proceedings that had happened and culminated in the judgement of the apex court on a petition filed by Zakia Jafri.

The Supreme Court will most likely not grant bail to Teesta Setalvad, as it seems the court is very much in favor of not giving her a third chance.

On August 22, the apex court sought a response from the Gujarat government on the bail plea of Setalvad, who was arrested in June in the case. Sibal had told the apex court on August 22 that allegations in the FIR are recitation of proceedings that had happened and culminated in their judgement on Zakia Jafri’s petition which was filed under Article 10 (1). This means that there was no violation or commissioning of any offence after filing this petition before any court within six months from its issuance.”

Conclusion

In the past few years, I have seen a lot of people become more politically involved. They are sharing their views on social media and other platforms with more frequency than ever before. This is a positive thing because it shows that people are becoming more aware of what’s happening in politics today; but at the same time it can be harmful if we don’t take into account everything else going on around us as well!
