We have been following this issue closely, and it seems like this story is going to be a major one for us. We are working on finding out what happened at Maraud and why it happened, but here is some information we have gathered so far:
The state government has decided that all illegal buildings will be demolished within 30 days of being identified. The law states that these buildings must be demolished within six months or else they will be demolished after a year. But what happens when a building violates these laws?
In this case, it was found that there were two luxury flats at Maraud which violated the rules set by the state government. These flats had been built illegally and were thus subject to demolition as per law. However, due to pressure from locals who wanted them preserved as heritage structures rather than torn down completely, these buildings were allowed to remain standing for another six months until they could be brought down legally. The residents involved in this case were then issued notices forcing them .
